They help me for a couple of months last year. I was living on my car before I move there. Is not a hotel but better than sleeping outside. I found housing through my caseworker Alice and the homeless council of Marion county and a stable job.

The Salvation Army is racist. They don't care about black people, they pretend to be spiritual but are not.. They are rude and treat people like scum. They don't help!! We were told that the resources were limited. (I guess to black people.) I called several churches in the area and was told they donate their money to the Salvation Army and Interfaith. But the Salvation Army don't use the money to help individuals. They lie to you over the phone to get you there, once you are there, they won't help you get back. (you are stuck)The staff there make you feel worthless rather than help.. When u asked them for something they look at u as if you are nothing. A few of the staff was kind and helpful.. I am grateful for that!! Other than that I will not recommend this shelter to anyone!! You would have a better chance toughing it out in a motel room If you have some type of income, hardworker, serious and persistent on getting back on your feet. We were there a little over 14 days.
This is the first and worst shelter we have ever stayed in, we did not feel welcomed at all. I have talked to other shelters that have informed me they do their best to help families get on their feet. They have programs that will listen and understand your downfall and help you get back on your feet. The great thing is that one of the shelters I have spoken with is willing to prove to us by paying for us to get there, so we can save our money... So thankful for that!Added February 15, 2017 by Veronica Bolden
